While the rest of the Christian world indulged in merry-making, a husband stabbed his wife dead in Catigbian town. The suspect was identified as one Efren Cagel, of legal age and a resident of Barangay Candumayao, Catigbian. He was accused of killing his own wife identified as Luisa Cagel, also a resident of the same place. The unfortunate incident took place about 6 pm last Dec. 27 after a brief argument. Efren reportedly stabbed Luisa on the chest, causing her instantaneous death that night. Efforts to revive Luisa failed as she succumbed to her stab wounds inflicted on her by Efren. Initial reports said the suspect was believed to be suffering from a mental illness at the time. There was no mention, however, on why such suspicion arose or whether there were efforts to have him treated. The suspect was temporarily detained at the Catigbian PNP jail while awaiting the commitment order for his transfer to the Bohol District Jail in Cabawan, Tagbilaran. There was no mention if the couple had any children and if there are, whose custody they are in now.
