Revival of Jagna “comparza” proposed

JAGNA- As an answer to the call of Gov. Edgar Chatto for the observance of the February 2011 Arts Festival, the Local Council for Culture and the Arts headed by Mayor Fortunato Abrenilla agreed to revive the old “comparza” of the town. Known in the 1970s-1980s in the barangays, the comparza was a group of musicians in the barangay who performed during programs and events. The instruments used were all string instruments such as the baho, banjo, violin, banjo guitar, guitar and the harp. This move was a result of discussions done by the council to be able to come up with an identity for Jagna in the field of the performing arts. Jagna is known province-wide not only for its beauties but also for the many talented Jagna-anons in the field of singing, dancing as well as drama. This is a step towards reviving the flourishing culture Jagna once had. It was believed that step by step thru the council, the Jagna comparza will be resurrected and all other performing arts will follow. The LGU with Mayor Abrenilla has pledged support in this endeavor. Once the program for the Jagna comparza will be ready, it was anticipated that Jagna-anons around the country and around the world will support their very own talents.
