By: DWIGHT B. EBOJO

With agriculture fast becoming an economic driver of the province, a yet another highly doable agricultural edifice will soon rise here, which Congressman Edgar M. Chatto believes as a crucial tool for the province's development.

Chatto's assertion came during the recent groundbreaking ceremony of the P8.5 Million Catigbian livestock auction center, which is set to rise a few meters from the town public market, at the heart of the municipality. “Aside from tourism, agriculture also stands as a driver of the province economically, hence this soon-to-rise livestock structure will help boost economic development especially to our local folks,” Chatto stressed.

Catigbian Mayor Roberto Salinas also said that the modern center can contribute largely, not just to the town's development, but also for the neighboring municipalities in terms of poverty reduction and alleviation. Chatto, the senior deputy chairman the House agriculture committee, has also set aside counterpart funds which is supported by the Community-Based Resourc Management Program (CBRMP).

Chatto has also facilitated the release of funds intended for livelihood purposes which include the creation of medium-scale jobs for local folks, re-lending program for small entrepreneurs, and skills training for out of school youths, among others. Also present during the event were CBRMP Regional Coordinator Pamela Sullano, Provincial Veterinarian Bing Lapez, Vice Mayor Fortunato Concon, and other local officials.

The first district solon is confident that the center shall make Catigbian and the province a well-known mark in the livestock market industry map. On the same day, a simple blessing ceremony of the Catigbian conference hall, training center, post office and people's park was also conducted. Chatto congratulated the leaders of Catigbian for the remarkable achievement.
