111th anniversary of Rizal's martyrdom Today, more than ordinary ‘Sunday'

Today's commemoration rites for the 111th anniversary of the martyrdom of the national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, makes Sunday more than just a church rendezvous of devotees. Making the guests list colorful is the Baclayon-based German philanthropist, Hans Schoof, who is past deputy supreme commander of the Order of the Knights of Rizal-Bohol chapter, along with no less than the director-general of the Presidential Management Staff, Secretary Cerge Remonde as guest of honor. Schoof and Remonde will speak during the commemorative program at the Bohol Cultural Center which starts at 9 a.m.

The program highlights the set of activities that KOR, of which Governor Erico Aumentado is the regional commander, and the provincial government had prepared with the theme, “Rizal: Putting Brilliance to our Future”. There will be a flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony at 7 a.m. at Plaza Rizal, after which the guests and hosts will share a breakfast at the Capitol. Then KOR will lead the parade from the Capitol area to the Bohol Cultural Center. After the commemorative program, the hosts will treat guests to a lunch at the Bohol Tropics Resort.

KOR members will wear their official uniform- -barong, black pants, dark shoes and black socks. During the commemorative program, Provincial Legal Officer Handel Lagunay, who is a chancellor of KOR-Bohol chapter, will lead the invocation that will be followed by a community singing of “Pilipiinas Kong Mahal” to be led by the Capitol Choir.

Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Lim and Vice-Governor Julius Caesar Herrera will give the welcome messages. Aumentado and the other provincial officials will present the plaque of distinction to Remonde as the guest of honor after his speech. Also, to reminisce the national hero, Lawyer Maria Evaneliza Cloma-Lucero will recite Rizal's “Last Farewell”. For Rizal's prominence in public speaking, the winner of the oratorical contest held earlier by Dep-Ed-Bohol, Jose Rene Omusora of Calape High School , will give an oration. The commemorative program will clinch with the mass singing of “Bayan Ko” to be led by Almira Tamsi.
