Bien Unido at 25: Laying the base

By: Benjie Autida

CONTINUING its march at 25, Bohol 's youngest municipality Bien Unido is bent into shaping up its infrastructure base to ready the playing field where the town could host the games called economic competitions. And as the town celebrated its silver foundation anniversary Dec. 15, with its dreams taking roots, nothing but cultural presentations, fun filled basketball games and recognition rites could well be the event's highlights to mark their little victories. Bien Unido Mayor Marianita Garcia in her anniversary speech highlighted the town's march to progress in the past 25 year's since being separated from the navels of mother town of Talibon. “Bien Unido today has seen progress through its various infrastructures and facilities,” she pointed out to the townspeople gathered for the momentous event.

The town has an equally spacious municipal gymnasium named after the Late Board Member elect lawyer Felix Garcia, the slain husband of incumbent Mayor Garcia. It has also acquired a new municipal library and is working on the construction of a guest house that will soon cater to visitors of the municipality. Such is so as the town, despite its young age has also recently hosted numerous Lakbay Ara'ls and study tours from various LGU's.

Bien Unido has been cited as one town with its brand of best practices especially on Coastal Management and Gabay sa Mamamayan Action Center (GMAC). Projects funded by the Kalahi CIDDS KKB has also benefited the barangays. All this has summed up Bien Unido's progress through the years quipped Mayor Garcia. At rhe ceremonies, the town also recognized past and present municipal mayor's and vice mayor's in the political achiever's award.

Also given certificates of Recognitions were Professional achievers like the first chief of police, first judge, first lawyer, first doctor and many achievers in different field of practices. “These awards are unique in another way as past political and achiever's award can still be traced this according to Diosdado Jimenez the president of the newly formed Bien Unido Culture and Arts Council. The newly formed Bien Unido Culture and Arts Council spearheaded activities for the day while preparing more for last week of December in time for the town's fiesta celebrations in honor of Patron Saint Senior Santo Niño. A Sinulog Hagwa celebration is also one activity that the municipality will proposed.
