Life starts anew as Mayana gets 110th

By GREGORIO A. TAVERA

JAGNA –GRACEFULLY surrendering to the things they can not change, residents of this land-slid barangay again gathered for the 110th Barangay Day Celebration December 8 with a healing festival. An agri-fair and a flower festival marked the new hope and presented the colors that reflect the disposition of the people so ravaged by a calamity that washed out their farms in July of 2005.

An early morning mass started the day's memorable marking at the Roman catholic chapel. This also ushered in the different activities after the opening program where a parade and colorful street dancing and portrayal by the four participating contingents wound up the barangay's main street. The grand parade had also the presence of the Pentagon Drum and Bugle Corps of Tagbilaran courtesy of generous individuals approached by the officials of Mayana led by the active barangay chairman Alberto Aleria. Jagna Mayor Exuperio Lloren along with Sangguniang Bayan member Godofredo Okit Sr. graced the occasion. In a place that approximates the highland temperatures of the country's vegetable and flower capitals, the display of different agricultural products especially vegetables and indigenous and exotic flowers featured Mayana's agricultural diversity.

The exhibits were showcased in the 10 booths representing all the puroks of the place dubbed as vegetable basket of the town. The open presentation of the barangay's elegant flowers and the highly priced farm crops drew visitors from the different areas of Jagna and nearby towns. It may be recalled in the wake of the Mayana crisis was the gallant stand of the Jagna local officials led by Mayor Lloren and the Municipal Disasters Coordinating Council headed by Eli Doria in coordinating relief work. The celebration has also signified the healing of the wounds and the traumatic scars left by the landslide that changed lives of people here. In fact, even Mayor Lloren has acknowledged the laudable rate of progress attained by the people who have started to rise back and dare fate again.
